Moon Room is our mobile, older infants/younger toddlers. In Moon we will be working on meeting caregiving needs such as learning to self-feed, collaborative diapering, and a regular nap routine. Students will exercise motor independence indoors and out while developing social skills through play and meal times. Students will begin exploring art and sensory materials as their fine motor skills, self-control, and creativity develop.
Moon Room activities include but are not limited to:
Meal and Snack Times:
Serving nutritionally appropriate meals and snacks, such as small pieces of soft fruits, steamed vegetables, whole grain crackers, cheese cubes, yogurt, and water or milk.
Physical Activity:
Supervised outdoor play on age-appropriate playground equipment.
Indoor movement activities like dancing, jumping, and climbing on soft play structures.
Sensory Exploration:
Playing with water tables and sandboxes.
Exploring sensory bins filled with items like rice, pasta, or safe, colorful objects.
Creative Play:
Engaging in simple arts and crafts like finger painting and coloring with non-toxic crayons.
Playing with playdough and safe, age-appropriate art supplies.
Music and Movement:
Singing songs and nursery rhymes.
Playing with musical instruments like tambourines, maracas, and xylophones.
Participating in simple dance activities with scarves or ribbons.
Language and Cognitive Development:
Storytime with interactive books and storytelling sessions.
Simple puzzles and shape sorters.
Encouraging the use of simple words and phrases during play.
Fine Motor Skills:
Stacking blocks and building with large, safe construction toys.
Gross Motor Skills:
Playing with push-and-pull toys.
Social Interaction:
Group activities that encourage sharing and cooperation, like passing a ball.
Role-playing with dolls and play kitchens.
Rest and Nap Time:
Scheduled nap times in a quiet, comfortable environment.
Self-Care and Independence:
Practicing handwashing and basic hygiene routines.
Encouraging self-feeding with appropriate utensils.
